Dark Reign: Future of War Update 1.2

Instructions:

Notes:
This is the second update issued for Dark Reign. This new update
includes all the old v1.1 patch functionality as well as a host of
new improvements. You do not need to have installed the previous patch
for this update to work, but if you did that's OK as well.

Here is a list of fixes made by update 1.2:
1. Increased network speed and reduced lag.
2. Increased number of Internet players from four to eight for
players with fast connections.
3. Increased multiplayer stability.
4. Event circles now move in, isolating the spot on the map where the
action is, as opposed to moving out.
5. Map transfer: gives players the ability to transfer maps to other
players over all network protocols.
6. Random map selector.
7. New multiplayer chat functionality such as: ignore, list players
in game/room, see games in progress, see how many people are on a
server. Allows you to right click and see ping and ip's of other
players.
8. New network icons allow you, among other things, to see what
players have what version of Dark Reign:
+ Full Blue Circle: Expansion Player
+ Half Blue Circle: Dark Reign Player with Expansion Art
+ Half Blue/ Half Grey Circle: Game requiring Expansion Art.
+ Explosion: Game in Progress
+ White Plans: Multi-player Mission Game.
+ Red Stop Sign with an 'X': Player ignored.
9. Guard towers cannot be built within range of enemy buildings.
10. Augmentation of Instant Action artificial intelligence
11. Map flagging. (Backspace and click on the map. Ctrl-backspace to
remove flag.)

Here's the list of the fixes made with previous patch, v1.1,
incorporated into this patch v.1.2:
1. Increased multiplayer server availability
2. Improved multiplayer connectivity
3. New brightness control setting
4. Correction of Artificial Intelligence settings
5. Other miscellaneous fixes, including CD read and keyboard lock-out
errors

What else should you know about the 1.2 Upgrade?
To play a game against other people, you must all have the same
version of the game. This is because the Expansion Pack/DR patch 1.2
has enhancements in its game play which Dark Reign 1.0 and 1.1 do
not have. You cannot play against these people because your game has
some enhancements which the original does not have. In fact, once you
install patch 1.2 or the Expansion Pack, you will only see people on
the server who have either Dark Reign 1.2 or the Expansion Pack. This
prevents you from attempting to join an old game in internet play. Once
you have installed the 1.2 upgrade it will now be possible to get
the Expansion Art Upgrade, When installed, the Expansion Art Upgrade
will allow you to play against the new Expansion Pack armies. This is
a great way to preview the new Expansion Pack armies before you buy
the game. If not installed you cannot play against the new Expansion
Pack armies. Please note: even with the Expansion Art Upgrade you
cannot play with the new armies, only against them; nor can you use
an infiltrator to steal any plans from the new armies.

What else should you be aware of?
It is only possible to play with the armies that exist in Dark Reign
with the 1.2 Update. If the new Xenite or Shadowhand armies are
selected in Instant Action, problems may occur. If so, simply restart
the game to continue. Games saved DURING a mission will not work with
the patched version of the game. Games saved BETWEEN missions will
work fine. Therefore, you may not want to install the patch until you
have a suitable saved game from between two missions. What versions
of the game does this work on? This patch will work on all full retail
versions of Dark Reign. NOTE: While this patch will update the Japanese
version, all new text will be in English. What you should do before
installing the patch: You should run SCANDISK and DEFRAG on your hard
drive before patching to improve game performance. Please note that when
you uninstall Dark Reign using the uninstall program this Update will
not uninstall. This needs to be done manually. To update Dark Reign
on your system, simply download the patch file below and double-click
it. The executable will automatically make all the necessary changes.
